changing/updating 1100 barrels?

can you update the barrel(s) on an 1100? for instance, i read something about having to do some light fitting work and change some rings/seals to accomodate a new (rem choke) barrel on the older 1100 that has interchangeable barrels?

can anyone shed some light on this?

How old of an 1100 is it? Mine is pretty old and I bought a new barrel for use of rem chokes.
