I don`t know of any websites that might help. As far as lookin` for stone goes, in your ramblins, carry a baseball size hammerstone with you. Any stone that looks like it might be workable, check it out. Most chert will have a limestone cortex on it that needs to be busted off to see whats underneath. Look in disturbed soil where roadcuts or new housin` is goin` up. Creekbeds are another likely spot to look.

What kind of Material you want...
Im sure I can point ya in the right direction...
Raw Texas Flint is usually good, but some perdernales can be tough because of the Blotches are sandy, Burlington is a bit tough raw but workable, Guy on ebay has some Blue Black Ft Payne...High Graqde is Killer raw other is testy for a beginner....I mean its freakin hard!
Coral...Dont waste it raw, cook it, Coastal Plains can be worked usually if its not too sandy rough grained. If its like candy Flint River, you drool will keep it slick!
Rainey Buttes is a Killer Raw Rock, around 3-4 bucks a pound not big pieces but super fine stuff. Kay County is good raw, in fact it looks like Coastal if you dont tell!!
Id suggest Texas Tabs though. I see one guy on ebay each day and he has good looking Tabs and Ameobas, has some crystals in it but if you want raw...Texas is a good choice..USUALLY!
Hope it helps email me and I know sellers..

Hey Steve,
That is a killer Bulltounge in your id photo! What type of material is it?
Paul, I would suggest going down to a creek and busting a few rocks, but I dont know that there is much in the way of good stuff where you are. Dont waste your time on quartz, its mighty tough to learn on.

Go to a map page and for Dalton-Whitfield County do a search for Rock Crusher Road. Up above the Dawnville area. Dalton Rock Crusher Company has been mining the biggest outcropping of Blue Cert anywhere for 50 years. Probably let you have a few rocks. But it is used for road gravel around here. Don't now if you can knap it.

I will have to try and get some, thanks Steve.
Hey Bo.,...
That blue works good fer ya, made a great display.
I've used that color blue in a bathrobe veleur material for a background color in my Florida frames for many years now. Red works best for Alabama quartz and white points.
Most fabric stores stock the stuff during the winter months, but hide it during the summer..
A material between some foam rubber is a good idea, as some foam has an acid in it...or so I've been told.
Paul,
Your going to def. have to come down to exit 290 this spring for the knap in.
I picked up a mess of this black rock, looks like black novaculite years ago. It works real easy and makes nice arrowheads. It kind of spoiled me.
I knapp about everything I can; plate glass, slag glass, chert, obsidian, novaculite, black butter, glass bottoms, beer bottles. I usually lay off the knapping for a few months and then, WHAM!!! I get the urge, grab my little kit and do it during my breaks.
But, I'm always looking for rock. Found really thick black plate glass, from a table or something on this asbestos demo. site. I was a knapping fool that day.
