I have a ? I might be goin to the Flats of Florida and was wonderin what is the best lure, or bait , to use to catch trout and red fish and other saltwater species.

Gulp shrimp are good. I like Saltwater Assassin Sea Shad (color depends but bone diamond is my favorite). All fished on a 1/4 jig head. Can also be fished under a cajun thunder.

I use Mann's Taildraggers for topwater in the morning or on overcast days. These topwater lures are great for fishing grassy water because you can get grass caught in the hooks and still be able to walk-the-dog unlike other lures. Otherwise, I use Berkley Gulp Shrimp rigged on a jig head or weedless using a Flutter Hook. I have also had success using Exude soft plastics as well.
When I'm fishing with someone else, one person throws topwater to locate the fish while the other will throw the soft plastic lure in behind the topwater bait once the fish have been located. We have had lots of sucess this way especially when the water is not gin clear and hard to see into. Good luck!

Gulps are good, but expensive and the bait fish will chew them up too. If they are really biting anything will catch trout if fished right depth and speed.

Try some of the tougher and cheaper grubs with a piece of "FIshbites" shrimp flavor on the hook.

I like sea shad Saltwater Assassin in Candy Corn, Electric Chicken, Chartruse, White and fire glow, and white and pink.

Topwater plugs, Bit-a-bait gold and black, Redfin gld/blk and silver/black.

Try a gold willow leaf spinnerbait, remove the skirt and put on a gulp. Use the 3" gulps. This is good for reds.

Ditto!!! Some of the Halo shrimp will work, rigged weedless or good ole finger mullet or cigar minnow work well also!
