I was set up where I had seen the big bird last week before daylight (no truck there this morning). At day break he started gobbling from the tree. Gobbled approx. 30 times from tree. He flew down gobbled about two times. I heard some hens at the end of the field. I saw a longbeard and a jake come to the field then go in the direction the hens were. About 10 minutes later, I yelped a few times on my slate and he gobbled. He appeared in on the edge of the field, coming at a run. He got to about 40 yards, stopped behind the last tree before I could shoot and turned and went into the woods. I guess he saw me or something he did not like, I was not moving but I educated him. He was a big bird. I'll try him again tomorrow.
