I have a 6.5Hp B&S Elite 2550psi washer. It has run great the past two seasons, now when I start it it will run as long as I hold the trigger on the nozzle down. When I let go of it the motor stumbles badly then cuts off. While trying to pull start it I noticed that unless I hold the trigger on the nozzle/wand down I can not even began to pull the cord to start it. I installed a new spark plug, air filter and cleaned the fuel tank and lines out. I am baffled by this thing, any ideas??

Sounds like the unloader on the pump is not working and not allowing water to circulate when the trigger is not pulled.

It should have a pressure relief valve or unloader on the pump. It should be located on the outside of the pump. Some are cleanable, some may have to be replaced.

I looked all around the thing and can not find a value per say. I did find something with a spring and screw head on it, no idea what it is.

That sounds like a pressure adjustment.

I checked on Briggs web page and they are no help. I am about ready to throw the thing away and buy another, but it's only 2 years old and very little use.

Surely somebody locally works on them? It definitely sounds like the pressure relief valve is not functioning correctly.

I went out and run it. It still will not crank without the trigger pulled back and still is like it is binding up, it will stay cranked when trigger is released, but barely. The whole thing goes to shaking like it is going to take off. The only valve on the pump is;
1.The inlet water
2. The high pressure hose
3. The soap intake
4. The high temp blow off
I have now checked every screen, screw, plug, hose, wire...you name it.

is the pump working? Does the pump have sufficient oil in it, or could it be getting ready to seize up? I had one that the pump went south on and it ran kind of poorly then like you are describing.

Thanks for posting. Your response and the other suggestions give me repair ideas on a shop washer that is having some problems, thanks!
