Does anyone know if the shaft on the shaft drive Honda 300 has to be lubricated?

The instruction book wiht my 450 never mentions lubrication of the shaft! My understanding is it is maintenance free!

The universal joints are sealed. The swingarm has a rubber boot at the front to keep crud out. You should change the rearend dope. Only holds about 3 oz !
