I have never been we are going in December quail hunting.
I have been told to be ready to render first aid on a daily basis to the dogs, we have only hunted plantations and the hunt club around here, mainly for planted birds, but several trips grouse hunting....I need to know a few items to take with me other than the usual Georgia stuff in other words I have with me neosporine(sp), super glue(for quick stoppage of blood) a couple of bandages.....that sort of thing that I can fix them up with while here in GA, but I have been told about thorns, scorpions and all that other stuff that TX must be famous for.....anybody got any suggestions?????? Helpful hints????
Any help would be appreciated.

it has been a while since i have been behind a dog back home, but the one thing my grandpa would not leave home with is some treezers. depends on where you go, those catus will feel a dogs pads up and is pretty painfull for them.

sand burrs- boots or innertubes to make them
get the dog vaccinated for rattle snake bite -red rock biologic - your vet has to order it takes two shot amonth apart so do that now.
get a good id tag on the dog with your number and the number of the ranch you plan to hunt on. Dont put the dogs name on it put your name
water bottle and collapsable bowl for dog- it can be hot as Edited to Remove Profanity ----Edited to Remove Profanity ----Edited to Remove Profanity ----Edited to Remove Profanity ---- there in Dec - I used to live there
tube of emt to stop bleeding
find out name, location and phone number of emergency vet in area both night and day numbers and make sure one of them stocks anti venom kit

last year it was 15-20 dollars per shot and the dog needs two shots a month apart the first year, after that you give them a annual booster. The problem around here is that its really designed for western rattle snakes and many vets are't even aware of the vaccine in Georgia. It does give some protection against our rattlesnakes supposedly. Texas has alot of rattlesnakes
If a few guys went together and bought a flat of vaccines it would probably be cheaper, I think a flat is around 24 shots. I am pretty sure your vet has to order it they wont send it to you.
While we are on the topic of vaccine anyone going grouse hunting in Wisconsin or MN needs to get the dog vaccinated for Lyme its really bad up there now.

my experience with Texas, is that it's a hot, dry place.
have fun. i lived there for near two years.
Good Luck! :bounce:
Must not have been near Houston. You got the hot right, but Houston's more humid than Georgia.
