We wanted to tell Romeo's story to anyone that will listen. If you are touched by his story - keep up with his progress on our website http://www.dirtbrokekennels.com
We have began on a journey with a VERY special little pup. We knew Romeo was going to be a great dog because he belonged to our beloved Bo. But in the seven short weeks Romey has been with us he has taught us more about the heart and courage of a true winner. When he was only 9 weeks old, tragedy struck. Romeo was brutally attacked by 2 of our Jack Russells. He was within minutes of dying from shock and suffering from a severely broken leg. But this little dog fought to live with ALL he had. After 4 intense weeks of surgery, multiple anitbiotics, therapy--it wasn't enough and a severe bacterial infection set up in Romey's
broken leg. We had no choice but to amputate because to us losing him was not
an option. We didn't care if he never laid eyes on a bird field but he had to stay
with us. He is barely a week out of surgery and is the happiest little pup you have
ever met. He is pointing grasshoppers, retrieving like he hasn't even been sick.
Everyone that has met Romeo since his trauma comments on how amazing he is.
Romeo may be a 14 week old shorthair puppy but he has taught us a huge life
lesson...He is telling us that a handicap won't stop him from being all he was meant
to be. He has taught us that having heart will take you as far as you ever want to
go even when the odds are against you. He is destined for greatness of this we
are sure.
So we will continue with his training because that is what Romeo wants. He will go with the others when he is ready and will set his own pace. But he will never be
denied the chance to be the true bird dog that he knows he can be. We should all
learn life lessons from our dogs and the purity of their hearts.
