I hope someone can tell me about this point. It is by far the nicest one I have ever found. 4-7/8" long. Found in SW GA. Age? Price? (not that I would sell it just curious)

River Patina is the brown polished color that comes from a point sitting in or rolling around in the nasty flint river. If that same point would have been found on land, it more than likely would have been white or cream colored.

Yea, river patina leaves a distinctive stain on various things.

I learned this from a friend of mine. The water in the major rivers in Georgia are what folks call "clay water". In the blackwater rivers and creeks of Florida and southeast Georgia, it`s tannic water. Clay water destroys bone and antler artifacts, tannic water preserves them. That`s why artifacts such as these are so rare in Georgia, but are found quite regular in Florida waters. Most of them will be stained a purty black color too. I`m just glad it doesn`t destroy stone artifacts!
