where can i camp near savannah, boat acces only would be nice. be cool if i could have a camp fire and a sand-ish beach not just the typical smelly mud we have here. ive fished ossaba sound a lot and have seen some that might be cool but i dont know if you can camp on them or not. any help?

Thre is one city owned campground on Tybee but it is not close to water, at least where you can launch. But there are ramps within a few miles. The next place is Skidaway Island. A great state park and campground but again no onsite launch but there are several within a few miles.

Skidaway Is Great . We Camp There Every Year. Boat Ramp Is Only 5 Minutes Away.

good ideas but i was thinking more like a small island in one of the sounds that i can camp on.

You can camp on some/most of them as primitive but the problem is the boat. The difference in tides makes landing a boat and being able to get back out tough.

I like that kind of camping, too.I camped on a hammock/island for a week once and lived quite nicely on fish, taters, and shrimp.:bounce:

that's a fine place.
the ocean end is very shallow and it's been a coon age since I have been up there. There are some marsh grass island on the ocean side sand bar that are great fishing.
I don't Think there are hogs there but there might. No hogs = rattle snakes.

I'm camping at Ft. McCallister State Park next week. The campground is on Savage Island. There is no beach at the campground but it's just a short ride down Redbird Creek to the Florida Passage at the backside of Ossabaw.

I spent a few days there last year and hated to leave. I can't wait to get back out there!

What you are looking for are the collection of hammocks just below Tybee that are known as Little Tybee. Boat access only and it is wide open. Raccoon key, Ossabaw and most of the other barrier island do not allow legal access above the high tide line.

Little Tybee is great for boat in/out camping.

Little Tybee
We've done it before. We went over in the kayaks and spent the night. We are planning on doing it again in Nov.
