I am still putting in the last couple of food plots, so I am not in the stand as much as I wanted.
Sat. morning hunting over an acre of sorgham and a deer starts blowing. Had the wind in my favor so knew that it wasn't blowing at me. I could'nt see it but it blew about 15 times from the same location. A couple of minutes after it stopped a bobcat came from the sorgham and just strolled by at about 25 yds.
Not that I have been in the woods much because of all the planting and such , but have seen a lot of rubs around. Mostly small, but one huge one that is in an area that i was hunting a big buck last year. Finding that rub made my weekend. My scouting was done on the tractor, going from one food plot to the next.

I have been seeing more scrapes than ever! I went last Sunday to finish up my tower stand, and I found a fresh scrape only twenty yards or so from my stand. I plan to work some this weekend and get my climber out in the pines and ready for next weekend!
About 400+ acres of peanuts next to our farm and pines are being turned this weekend! There are going to be some big-bellied deer walking around on opening day!

Saw three different groups of does and young ones Saturday morning. First group came in around 7:50 or so and the last group came in around 9:20. Check out this thread for picture of a wily old doe: http://www.woodystaxidermy.com/forums/showthread.php?t=3463
I took my climber to some new land we have leased next to our cow pasture, and I had a spike come and bed down in some honeysuckle bushes about fifteen yards in front of me. He stayed there for about 20 minutes until something spooked him. He snuck off through the bushes about twenty minutes before sunset.
A hunting buddy of mine killed a 13 pt (main frame 10 with a forked G2 and two kickers) Saturday morning.

I think we may get an early rut this year. I have heard of at least three nice bucks killed since opening day of gun season. A student of mine killed a nice 11 point that grossed 162! (I will try and post some pictures later tonight.)
I haven't heard of any bucks chasing does yet, but I have heard people talking about some aggressive behavior already being displayed by bucks. I usually wait to hit the woods heavy in early November--I may have to change my MO this year and start getting "serious" before Halloween this year. :D
Hunting is on the sideburner now, though. I will be preparing my team for the state fast pitch sectionals in Valdosta this weekend. If everything goes according to plan this weekend, next week will be spent getting ready for the Elite Eight in Columbus!

Leadoff, good luck in the sectionals  That sure sounds early for Taylor Co.! I will miss this weekend too. Need to be home for my daughter, But after that , I plan to hit it hard. That will put me at Halloween weekend without having a gun in my hand. BTW, would love to see them pics, sounds like a bruiser of a buck.

well I just spent three days hunting in taylor co.,where G O N claims there are 40 deer per square mile. if thats so my neighbor must have 80 deer per square mile on there place, and must not hunt, because not only did three of us not see any deer in three days, we didn't even here a shot, except ft. Benning shelling!!!!! weather was ok for this time of year, and saw lots of rubs, scrapes, dropings, and tracks.... just no deer. must be moving on our place at night. had a good time with my buds though eating lots of deer steaks[ last years] and shooting a lot of bull around the camp fire.. maybe next week, it's a long season!!! oh yeah I did see a bobcat that looked like a small deer, about 40-50 lbs..... :

Give it a little time, BBB! I am banking on the middle of next week to be the prime time. I got back from Valdosta late Saturday, and I spent Sunday afternoon in the woods. Didn't see squat either, so you aren't alone!
Maybe this will be an inspiration to you. Here is a picture of one of my students with his buck he took last week:

Very nice buck, have been waiting on that pic. He is a bruiser. What part of the co. did he come from? How did ya'll do in the sectionals? BTW, I'll be down this weekend for the first time this gun season, can't wait. :D :D
When is the rut suppose to kick off?
My first year hunting Taylor. We've only seen 9 deer all year so far all does
lot of scrapes and rubs but nothing with horns seen.
we'll be headed down on the 6th for about 5 days hunting.
That is a nice buck.
