Here is the same picture after I made some minor adjustments...thanks DRB...again! 
Basically, all I did was darken the shadows a tad which helped isolate the palm in the middle.
This "burn & dodge" technique should come in handy in the future!
It's funny, I almost like the post-processing part as much as the mushin part.

I can't see the improved version either - but I can envision it. Thanks for the description. Yep, post-processing can either be a real joy or a real pain! It's neat to make something with the mushin' & processing though!
