Today I saw a 44 Charter Arms Revolver. Approx. 3 inch barrel. It was at the Pawn shop. Is there anything to them?

I have a Charter Arms .38 special 2" barrel 5 shot revolver. I can find no fault with it. Obviously not a top of the line weapon, but serviceable and reliable.

A Charter Arms .44 worked fine for the Son of Sam.

Where was it made?(look on the side of the barrel). Older Charter Arms were made in Stratford, Ct. and were OK. Newer ones were made in Shelton, Ct. and aren't known for high quality.

My wife carried one for about a year.
In double action it was fine, in single action if you cocked it real slow and gentle it didn't lock. I took it to a smith and he kept it over a month but couldn't get parts. Did what he could with the parts he had but it went back after a little use. I would have never noticed it but I let a guy I know who shot competitively look at it. Sold it back to the guy I got it from at twice the price. Only time I even thought about it was at the range.

Forgot to add I would buy another or even that one back in a minute for the right price.

Note that it's a .44 Special, not a .44 Magnum, and you have to watch what you shoot through them, they weren't built for the hot stuff. Buffalo Bore specifically states not to use their .44 Special ammo in Charter Arms revolvers.
Charter Arms has had several iterations. The early ones, stamped Stratford, CT as noted above, were good. The Charco's were generally crap, and I hear that the newest offerings are of decent quality again.

I'll add that my .38 is an early Stratford made gun, so I can't speak for the later ones.

My dads bulldog .44 is argubly the best shooting wheelgun between the two of us, and we have quite a few. Now they offer the laser grip for the old model which he just bought. SWEET
