It's simple logic really. Air is lighter than water, water is heavier than air. Therefore you float in waders in water (until they fill up) and water-filled waders are heavier on land. However, air in air wieghs nothing, water in water weighs nothing. The old tale of water-filled waders dragging you down is simply that--a tale.
