My son just bought a flintlock rifle. I have no experience with flintlocks but offered what I know about percussion cap, cleaning, operation etc... What came up was powder. I know you can use 777 and others in a cap & ball but what about a flintlock? Especially the powder sticks. I know they can be hard to ignite so maybe you shouldnt use them in a flintlock??

Your best bet is to use black powder, don't use pellets

He was in the Dicks Sporting Goods (Cranberry PA) There was one on the rack had a sale tag on it. Seems they didnt move and it had a $300 price on it. He asked the sales kid if the price was right and was told yes and no returns on clearence. He said he couldnt swipe his debit card fast enough... Here is a link for the rifle but a lot more money.

Use real black powder, like Goex. Pyrodex and 777 are harder to ignite, can make a big difference in accuracy with a rock lock. Use FFg for the main charge and FFFFg for priming the pan.
