It was very quiet in Oglethorpe County this morning. No birds talking.

It was a great morning though. I saw 11 deer including a real nice buck that only had one side of his rack. They were moving well.

And....I found an almost perfect arrow head.

Back at it on Monday. Ya'll go get us some birds.

I got out there good and early. Did not hear a single bird gobble, AT ALL! Waited until about ten o'clock and went through some tall pines and walked and called trying to get one fired up. Stayed with it until 12:30 to no avial. SouthGaHunter and I are going back in the morning, hopes I can slay one then.
BTW, on top of all that, I lost me wallet along the 3 -4 miles I walked today.:banginghe:cry:

All, my dad asked that I let you know he killed a nice bird this morning. Pictures will follow in a few days when he makes it back to the computer. The bird was 3 years old, just over 9" beard and the spurs were 1" and 1 1/16". Good luck to everyone...

I went this morning to Dixie Creek over at West Point to wack one and saw nothing but punk kids tearing it up on 4-wheelers. I sure wish there was some way for the DNR to put a stop to this on WMA's. Oh well back at again tomorrow when I get off work.

I think between the cold weather hanging around and the rain for a week and a half that the birds are just in a state of suspended animation. Hopefully this rain will get over with and it will get hot and turn'em on.

I probably will go this weekend but I really am not interested until this weather warms up and we get a little break in the rain. Geeezzzzzzzzzz, enuff is enuff.

I am still at it hard, went last weekend and saw some hens and had a gobbler strutting and he actually bred a hen out on the powerline but he was 500yds+ across a creek on other property. I have been on them every day but they love to roost on the edge or just across the property line (creek) and ALWAYS fly down onto the other folks property. Anywho I will be back at em this weekend!

Man the past two days I have had gobblers all over me. Three this morning. I am getting so aggrivated with them. I just can't seem to get them into bow range. This morning they stayed hung up out at about 65 to 75 yds. Everything I tried did not work. Fellas what am I doing wrong help me please. I am new to all this so if you guys know something I can try let me know.

I hunted Wednesday with the bow and shot at a jake at 5 yds. It was a glancing blow.
Are you in food plots, or you setup near a path? Turkeys make a similiar routine every day. figure that out and reposition. I've had little luck with calling. Friday pm we had 6 jakes in a wad and they weren't interested in anything even double gobbles wouldn't get their attention. My boy bellied crawled up to 60 yds shot and didnt kill 1.
Saturday we set up in a plot with a decoy. I did zero calling, they never looked at the decoy and he made a 48 yd shot.
I'm no help but keep at it......

Keep after those birds. I'd try buckback's recommendation and see how that works.

I hunted the Allatoona Corp of Engineers land yesterday afternoon. We heards some hens yelping late in the day and I assume they were headed to the roost. We never saw them.

I have had the worst year. I feel like the birds are simply not responding to any calling. I located to gobblers in a huge pecan orchard. Got to within 80 yards and started clucking a little and they never acted as if they even heard me. Just eat bugs and walked around. I've been a lot lately but it just isn't happening. I slep in this morning because I'm just tired. Anyway, going back after it Friday morning.

Missed a shot at a jake this morning twice he came in with a hen all the way up to 10 yds. They acted spooked so I waited thinking a big gobbler was coming in behind me. I had three birds hammering all morning. Anyways they moved back out to about 35 yds so I looked out my blind and saw a stinking fox squirell so I decided to take a shot and missed he moved out to about 45 yds and I tried it again and missed again:banginghe:banginghe. Sorry fellas if I am frustrating ya'll with my misses. If I gun hunted I would have already tagged out. This is my first year going archery only and I am still learning. I just love getting the opportunities. Well enough of my whinning I will be back at it again in the morning. Good luck to all of ya'll.

I tried that bow only last year. After 5 opts I started doing both.
I learned there's a time and place for archery and it ain't allways and everywhere. Break out the gun for the last 2 weeks and try to get us on the board. I am gonna be huntin more with the bow the last 2 weeks.

Went to a ditch bank this evening. sittin in the truck I saw 2 birds 300 yds away. I decided to bump them and go hunt it. Ended up bumping 5 birds (3 more 75 yrds in). 30 minutes in 3 birds come back out and feed around 75 yds away and the rain starts. I sit it out and at 7 pm 2 jakes walk past me at 25 yds on the other side of the canal. I purr at them and they jump the ditch and start walking back to me. At 18 yds they run off and I look back towards my truck to see 2 fisherman.
I had my longbow today and was wanting the 5 yd shot I was about to get. Next Time...

What a time. lots of highs and lows. Get set in the blind about 3:30 and within 30 minutes 7 birds come out and start feeding my way. They are closing slow but get to 100 yds and get spooked. I have 3 people decide to show up and ruin my hunt. Not their fault, they had a right to be there.
I move 400 yds down to try to avoid them. Get set and guess what 3 more poeple show up down there. I'm livid so I pack up and start heading back to where I 1st was. I wave as I pass them. I get set back up and here they come again only this time they are where they shouldnt be and I yelled at them to leave. They left and things quieted back down after 2 more people walk thru. The birds show back up 4 jakes come out 20 yds to my right. They end up feeding up to about 50 yds of my truck out by the highway and I have a hen get spooked away by several more people. I decide to call to the jakes and they come a runnnin. Get to 20 yds of my decoy and disappear down the canal bank. they walk past the decoy and a hen pops up 1st. 2nd bird is a jake and he putts, 3rd bird stands there and I shoot low. 2 more birds cross the ditch and I shoot low again on 1 of them. It was a hunt that was frustrating yet fulfilling at the same time. I was happy for the opts with my longbow...

today had a solo jake come out. put the decoy 20 yds away and he walks right up to it but would never walk past it towards me and where the birds been feeding all week. Last time they skirted the decoy so I thought if I put it away a little my chances would be better. These turkeys change their minds more than plp does his drawers....
