How many here ever killed a bird? I just got back in to it last year, and took my biggest bird ever. Going to try to top that one, I know there are two that are bigger there.

Lets see if this work. Got this one opening day, Skunked the rest of season. good scoring bird, but was only one to take one on the team. Anyone heard from AL840. No contact yet.
By the way I'm Gary or Gunner. Either one is good.

Yeah I havent heard from AL840 either. I've got about 1200 acres to hunt this year thats all private and also a 3 day hunt in Tenn at Tumbling Creek Lodge. I should have a promising season this year with tags filled. Good Luck

Thought this would help. Copy and paste to a document then print out and keep with you for a refrence. That way there is no mistake.

2009 Turkey Challenge

** Points will be awarded as followed..
Adult gobblers = 5 points
Jakes= 2points
(adult standards for this contest will be any gobbler with a 6 inch beard or longer...If its close, a picture with a ruler/tape will be needed to verify...In the rare case that a adult gobbler has beard rot, a picture of the spurs laying on a newspaper to verify the date will be accepted...It will be the judges decision to whether or not the gobbler is an adult.) The team with the highest number of points at the end of the competition will win.

** Bonus Points...
Any gobbler killed that has a 11 inch beard or longer will earn 2 bonus points. 3 strands of the beard will be eligible for the longest part of the beard. All entries will be reviewed by the judges.
Any gobbler killed that has a 1 1/4 inch spur or longer will earn 3 bonus points.
There will be some birds that earn you 5 points on top of your score.
Anybird taken on a WMA or public land where the kill can be verified will earn you 2 extra point...A picture of the WMA sign out sheet or other documentation to verify will be needed for this extra point...(...no national forrest or corps land birds will get bonus points..No way to verify.)
(Extra pictures will be needed to verify the bonus points..Examples will be shown on what kind of pictures that we are looking for...Once you submit your bird for bonus points that is it...There will be no Pm's sent this year asking you for better pictures..You have 1 hour from the time you post your original pic to edit that pic...After that its is set...If you don't have it by our standards then you will not recieve the bonus points.

** Gobblers taken anywhere in the US can be entered. To make it fair for everyone, the contest will run along with the Georgia season (March 21-May 15).

** All members will have 7 days to submit a kill. A current newspaper will be used to verify the date as in the bow hunting challenge. ...You may also verify the date of your kill with a cell phone...The date MUST be visible and CLEAR for all to see...

** Each member will need to submit 2 pictures per kill. (More pics are needed for bonus points)

#1 -- Picture of hunter, turkey, and newspaper/phone. (make sure we can identify you...We recieved lots of pics last year where people's face were cut out of the pic...This will not be acceptable.)

#2 -- Close-up picture of the date for verification.

Longest beard and spur competition
There will be a several threads started in the turkey challenge forum...One for longest beard, longest spur, and highest scoring hunter...The first person to enter a bird this year should enter into the spur and beard catagories....After that, your only allowed to enter a bird if it beats or ties the previous bird...Pictures must be clear and up to our standards per our examples..This will eliminate everyone wondering who is leading the "longest" catagories.Once again, once you enter your bird, there will be no Pm's sent if the pictures are not right...The bird will be deleted and disqualified. After the first person limits out, they should post their total score in the "highest scoring hunter" thread...Then after that only hunters who tie or beat the score may post there.

ALL TIES WILL BE BROKEN BY THE DATE/TIME OF THE ENTRY...THE FIRST ONE OF THE TIES THAT ENTERED WILL WIN THE TIE BREAKER.

Thanks and good luck to everyone who joins up.

This thread is for the longest beard in the challenge...Pay close attention to the samples provided....This is exactly how to take your pictures....Notice how easy it is to read the tape....Notice how both ends of the tape is visable...Suspect pictures will not be accepted...After the first bird is entered, you may only post here if your bird ties or beats the previous bird. 3 strands of the beard will be eligible for the longest part of the beard. All entries will be reviewed by the judges. All measurements are to be rounded down to the nearest 8th.

Killer Day, Out and about from 6:30 am till 5:30 pm today. Not even a sound from anything. We did see evidence of a lot of Yote activite. Several feather and bone piles were found along with Yote tracks. Looks like we are doing a little predator hunting this evening. Hope everyone else had some luck. We are stumped. Had 4 of us out on the property today and as I said not a sound from anything. I'm done till next weekend Good luck to all

Well worked a bird from 3:30 to about 4:48. Came in on a string like normally and I saw his bottom portion and thought he would start strutting. Long depressing story short, he circled around and flew off. I guess the decoy spooked him because I quit calling a good 30 minutes before I heard him last gobble which was a ways off. Pulled him about 400 yards or so through thick pines on firebreaks and over a fence. Great weekend, no one got hurt and the birds are still alive for next weekend. Good luck

I got a adult bird 9 3/4 in beard and 1 in spurs his morning on my club. I will post pics and kill tommorow on the kill sheet. HEY WE ARE ON THE BOARD NOW.

F14Gunner
04-05-2009, 06:33 AM
Was out yesterday at daylight with another member from thr club. We positioned ourselves close to two food plots about 500 yards apart with a small patch of pines seperating us. All was quiet till around 9:30 am, then we both heard a Tom returning our calls. He sounded intrested. but did not make way towards neither one of us. This went on for 30 minutes or so then silence again. Along about 11:30 am we meet up to move to another position in hopes of getting a better chance of harvesting a Tom. Arriving t a location we call hilltop food plot we stood swapping a few lies, till I drew out my slate call nd let go with a few chirps, and low and behold an answer, only thing it was several hens answering. A few moments latr I called again and even closer. After about ten minutes I called again and here pops up a hen not 15 yards from where we are standing. So thinking a Tom may be with her or them hard to tell. We sneak around in two seperate directions in hopes of getting a bettr advantage or shot at a Tom. By the time we are in position set up a few more calls and nothing but silence.
So gents ends my day yesterday. Maybe next weekend. Good luck to all and congrats ACREY for getting us on the board.

Hey thought I was going to bet a nother one this morning! Didnt hear a gobble untill about 745 and it was a single gobble on the opposite side of our club, so we jogged across a 600 ac club and could not get a gobble then we got hens to answer, set up decoys hoping a tom was with them. They came to us but only hens, they left. Then we walked over one ridge and were talking and I hit my mouth call and he almost blew us away. Again we put up dacoys and he gobbled at almost every call, but was not getting any closer. So we got our decoys and crawled to the to of the ridge and got to our knees and about 100 yds there he was srutting. Then I saw the hens, thats why he was not coming. The I noticed another tom and more hens, so we had two toms, with in 100 yds and they were not leaving there girls. I know where I will set up next sat morning, these are big toms 10 in or better beards and good spurs.

Your bird was denied by the judges...Nicodemus usually sends Pm's but he hasn't been online for a few days....You didn't have the #1 pic that includes you, the bird, and a paper or phone.
