What is this?

Didn't know where else to post this picture.

Anybody know what this is coming from the tree. Has been dripping from the tree for 4 days.

Does it smell bad?

Looks like some sort of disease.

Maybe...Bacterial Wetwood/Slime Flux Disease.

I am not exactly sure though. I just googled around for a few minutes and that's what I found.

Moved this over here where you will be more likely to get an answer.

Looks like lightning damage. Naturally, with the bark ripped off, the tree's sap is going to run out all over.

looks like lightning to me but I have seen trees damaged in similar fashion from tornados and water spouts.

Sap is what's dripping. Sap rises in the spring. I pruned a grapevine the other day/last week and it's still bleeding.

Looks like an old river birch. Don't think they get black knot disease. Looks kind of like fusiform rust but I think it mainly appears in pines. I know it lives in oaks, but I don't think you actually see it until it appears as a cancer in pines.

As TD Bone said, looks like bacterial slime flux disease.
