I've been wanting to go to Santee for a bowfishing trip. Is now a good time to go? Any info on areas to checkout or avoid?

5-7 days after a full moon when there's no moon - several weeks after any rain so the water is clear. These conditions are most common late summer and early fall.

I agree with Michael. The water is going to be high and muddy for sometime now.

I have bowfished in the Santee, when I lived in SC, and you have to get above the "blackwater" to see well.

But, when you do go, you will probably see more gar than anything else, and at night you will most likely come across several bowfin, and they fight good too.

yeah we went 2 weeks ago got 5 catfish from 12-20lbs made some nice filets..also the big commons were starting to come up in the ricefeilds. plan a trip when the tide is either coming up or going out ...but dont get caught on a rice field when the water starts going out!
