How many grains of pyrodex by weight equals 65 grains of black powder by weight? The substitute powder says for a 50 caliber muzzle loader you can use 100 grains of pyrodex by volume. That's why I need to know how much by weight. Can anyone help????????:banginghe

about 44.5 grains of pyrodex ..... SO either use a 50 grain pellet or use a 40 grain pellet ......

I've been shooting black powder for years, I believe 65 grains of black powder is equal to 65 grains of pyrodex. They are supposed to swap one for the other. Pyrodex is supposed to leave less fouling and is safer to ship and stuff.
hope u opted for the loose pyrodex and not the pellets.

You don't load by weight with black powder or any of the substitutes, you load volume for volume. If your gun uses 100 grains of black powder it uses 100 grains of Pyrodex or triple seven or any other BP sub. If you are loading loose powder, you get a black powder measure which is calibrated by volume.

Bernard, what are you doing needing to know the weight? polaris and hawg are correct. Unless something has changed in the last couple of years with newer powders available, which I don't believe is the case.

I use a scale to weigh my bp when working up a charge. I have a bp measure but i find it is not very consistant. Thanks for the info Outsy it answered my question.
