Any suggestions for a river house vacation rental?

We are trying to think of something different to do this summer for family vacation. We've done the beach thing for 10 years and want to do something different. Anyone know of any home rentals on rivers in GA or reasonable location/drive from metro Atlanta to AL,NC, or SC? Would prefer a large house on a river/river view with nice accomodations capable of sleeping 8-10, and at a river access/location that offers fishing and boating opportunities for jon boat (large jon boat!) type boats. Probably would want to do a whole week there. Info on who to contact, where, what recreation opportunity, etc. is appreciated.

Second option would be do to the same at one of the lakes in N. GA excluding Allatoona or Lanier. House would need to be on the water with private dock. Any suggestions on this are also appreciated.....who to contact, where, etc. Thanks.

I got one suggestion for Lake Cumberland in Kentucky....they said it's a beautiful lake. Anyone ever been there?

You might look into Realfoot lake in TN or maybe Guntersville Lake. Tons of vacation rentals like you are seeking on both lakes.

All I can add is to find out for sure what your "Renter Rights" will be beforehand. This goes for any kind of rental, particularly from all of these cabin rental places.

You'll get a multipage list of things YOU are responsible for ect....

What you need to nail down is what happens when you get there and this, that and the other thing is wrong with the place. What will the owner or company do about problems? Can you get a partial refund is stuff is wrong and they can't or won't remedy the situation while you are there. We've been burned several times.
