Fished the Pisgah National Forest

Went up to the North Carolina mountains yesterday and fished the Davidson and Big East Fork of the Pigeon....that place is incredible.

Fished a dry all day and caught 11 wild fish.

The water was the clearest I've ever fished.

The best part about it was on the East Fork- the river went through a tunnel and it was very dark. http://i81.photobucket.com/albums/j206/lakeviewartist/fishing/P6010363.jpg

The browns apparently enjoyed this 24hr darkness because they went bonkers on my fly. Pulled 5 nice sized browns out of one run.

Hey now, don't be sneakin' around in my backyard catchin' all my fish! :bounce: I live near the Big East Fork, it's some great fishing when they're on. Some of the prettiest colored wild browns you'll see anywhere, too.

I'm heading up to the Davidson tomorrow.
First visit there in a year and a half, so I'm curious to see how the hogs that used to be in front of the hatchery held up through the drought (at least, I hope they held up).

Water temps were fine...nice and chilly.
Yeah those midge eating hogs on the davidson are still there.

We fished further north and it seemed they didn't want anything that wasn't on top....how often do you have that problem? It was great!

The underwater video is from my Olympus stylus....perfect fishing camera waterproof and you can drop if from the roof and it won't break!

Affordable too!

got back from 3 days on the davidson- you're right- the hogs are still there and hungry!

I've been going up since the late 90's, and this was my best trip ever. Not much surface feeding, but the fish were very active eating nymphs, and would take any midge nymph pattern, as long as it was black or gray.

Injun Joe, the Davidson is in Transylvania County, NC near Brevard.

Yeah

I think everywhere is probably fishing the best it has in the past ten years due to the rain we've been getting.
I had a 28 fish day yesterday...all wild bows and I only fished from 3:30 - 8:00. And this is in GA!!!!
By far my best outing in our state.

injun joe,

Like the reply above, it's just east of Brevard. Takes about 4 hours from Marietta if you stop a couple of times for food and bathroom breaks- just head up I85, take the 1st exit in SC and go north on SC 11. thru Westminster and across Lake Keowa, to a 4 way stop, then left on US 178 over the mountains to Rossman, then east on US 64 thru Brevard. Go a couple of miles past Brevard to a stop light, and turn left on US 278. runs along the river for about 4 miles, then left on a paved forest service road just after crossing a bridge - hatchery area is about 1 mile up this road. Nice paved parking lot, with rest rooms and drink machines at the hatchery, and the "hogs" are swimming all thru the river in front of the hatchery. All catch and release, single artifical fly. Used to be fly fishing only, but I think that has changed.

I've fished all over the southeast (except Arkansas), and most of Montana, and there is nowhere I have been that has as many big fish as the Davidson.
