I have plans on my website for a easy to build squirrel trap. You might be able to upsize it for coons and possums.

I built one out of 8x1 inch wood. four of them and make a tube shaped box. Then take a rectangular piece of wood and drill holes in it and place metal dowels on holes. That is then affixed to the inside of the trap with the spikes pointing inwards. The animal goes in and cant push the spikes back out.

Gone But Not Forgotten
Here is a large one I made for less than 20$ and is big enough for a coyote. Caught many coons and opossums in it. The mouse trap on top is triggered by a fish line that hangs down inside with a small piece of cloth that I dip into a 20 cent can of cat food then throw the can into the back of trap.
