Getting Started

I'm wanting to get started into fly fishing. Not really wanting to spend over about $100 on a rod and reel. I'll mostly be fishing for bream and small bass but I would like to occasionally catch small stocker trout on it. What would be a good setup for me?

I just started this past May. I got a 9 ft. 5 wt. from Bass Pro Shop and it has been great so far. I also have a St. Croix Imperial 6.5 ft. 3wt which is a blast on small streams. The Bass Pro outfit was around $70(rod and reel) and it came with line, which isn't high quality but it works. The St. Croix rod was around $140.Hope this helps

x2 on the Bass Pro set ups. I got one for around 100 at Bass pro, not the greatest but alot better than I saw at Wal-mart etc. I still need to get some good boots or waders so I will not fall down so much. I spend more time falling and scaring the fish than I do casting.

8.5 or 9' Hobbs Creek combo from Bass Pro - 5wt

Three Forks combos from Cabela's are good, too.

8.5 5wt Dogwood Canyon from bass pro would also be a great setup.
