The lost gold mother lode of georgia remains a mystery but is belived the little river section in mcduffie county harbors pockets and veins of gold that are found with regularity, but the main source has eluded prospectors it is believed by many that this area holds the mother lode of gold for this region the gold was first found in 1823 on some land between the river and harts creek, today it is a game refuge.
