I have a stupid question...can ya kill a bear with a .243? I know shot placement is key to success, but I don't want it running off or running at me!!! Do ya take a head shot or a heart shot?

heart shot and I would image a 243 is sufficient.

I feel like a 243 is a little light even tho lots of people on here gonna tell ya to go with it. for around here i would use minimun 30-30 170 grs. i try for a broadside vital area shot

.243 is fine. I prefer heavier, but its fine. I would not advise going any lighter though.
Stay away from head shots. Shoot them like a deer.

Like Dana said this weekend. Black bears can dish it out, but they can't take it. A .243 is more than sufficient. As always, shot placement is the most important part.
