what kind of snake , It had about 20 lumps which I assume are rats. Metalic blue and black about 4 ft long

Ill go with black rat snake. If you look close you can see white on the bottom jaw/ under the chin of the snake. That wouldn't be present on an Indigo snake.
The lumps aren't actually rats, just muscles.

Not an indigo....waaaay too far north for that! That is a black rat...and yep, those are the muscles. However, it, like the indigo, is a fantastic snake to have around....it would stink to be a mouse anywhere around him.

Thanks , After looking at pictures based on suggestions, I think its a black rat snake.

Definately a Black Rat. The lumps are muscles ,as stated. Big snake ! Still a good one to have around.
