I have a Craftsman 5hp 30 gallon compressor(oilless)..started taking a few extra seconds to come on and now will turn over a time or 2 slow and throw the breaker..replaced the 400-480 MFD start capacitor and didn't help....you can take the chk valve line off going into the tank/gauges and it will start but still sounds weak...has another cap..with 3 wires...figure it maybe the run cap....don't want to keep guessing spending money..any ideas?

Check the pressure switch (if it as an external one like on a well). It may have some corroded contacts or burned wires where they attach to the switch. Otherwise i would guess the run capacitor.

is it on an extension cord? if so the shorter the better and try to use nothing smaller than 14 gauge wire. hope this helps.

Is it on a dedicated breaker? If so check the voltage, the breaker may be going bad and giving trashy voltage causing the slow start.
