what to coat spurs with?

I want to do something with my wife's turkey from last year. I've got the spurs and the beard from it, but the spurs look somewhat dull. Seems like I remember people saying that they coated them with lacquer. I don't want them to look too shiney, but I don't want them to look dull either. Any suggestions?

Ive used clear nail polish. It works fine.

I spray with clear lacquer or schelack (sp). Not to shiny to me.
