That is so nice.
I work with a guy that makes all his daughters furniture and special things his wife likes.
That is such a great hobby, those types of pieces will go be able to be passed down from generation to generation..
tully83,
Ya just rang my bell.Woodworking is my thing and has been for a while.I enjoy making different things mostly with Shaker patterns. Most of their furniture was very simple in design and quite functional.I worked with heart pine for many years till I ran out of material.I wish I could find some chestnut from up north.I think all that is available now would be from old buildings.

That is one thing I really wish I knew how to do. I'd like to have a shop and KNOW how to use it. Nothing store bought is ever 'right' and I have good ideas for things, just no talent to bring them to reality. Story of my life.... :o

I also dabble in wood. Mostly turning bowls and pens on the lathe along with a few other items like wine bottle stoppers and kalideggscopes, etc I'm surprised Al33 hasn't stopped here yet...he likes to dabble also and does very nice work from what I've seen! :)

Boneboy, shoot me a PM with a price on a big wooden bowl, please. About the size of a good salad bowl.
My wife has been wanting one for years.

I do a bit when time allows....tried to upload my last project, but can't seem to get it to upload..Jim was nice enough to add my pics.....a rocking horse gift to a friend. The wood is estate cherry (from my grandfather's farm in the greater Zadee metropolitan area) and Walnut inlay is also from family property (in N. Wilkesboro, NC).

I enjoy it too, but I am not very good at it. I have made a mantel and an antique chest stand that my wife actually approved of and are now fixtures in our home. I'm pretty limited on tools right now, so that limits what I can do. Woodworking is another expensive hobby that I can't afford right now.....I have too many of those already.

I have made bookshelves for my daughter's room and a toy chest for my nephew. Both turned out pretty nice.
I just wish I had a larger shop and a better table saw.

My second love. My two car garage is my shop ( much to my wife's consternation). Build cabinets and custon furniture on the side. Built my wife a curio cabinet last year, gonna make me a gun cabinet this year. Plus remodeling the kitchen in cherry
