Virginia has a fall turkey season, either sex. My Dad is 73 and since he retired from Norfolk Southern after 44 years of service he has killed close to 40 turkeys in the last 13 years.
Two weeks ago while hunting in Bath County, he got a hen.
Last week, he was calling a gobbler in. He shot and connected. When he went to pick it up, there was two more gobblers flopping on the ground. Apparently, the other two were lined up behind the one he saw in front. One shot, 3 dead.
I asked him if he thought he was Daniel Boone. :bounce:

We always spend Thanksgiving with my in-laws and travel the day after Christmas to spend some time with my dad.
Yes, it was a surprise to him.

I will be in Bath County for Thanksgiving week and normally go in early summer as well. My dad lives there. I love that part of VA

Near Millboro Springs. My uncle has a cabin and he stays there. He hunts on Walker Mountain.
He first starting hunting in Bath back in the early 60's with his brother-in-laws from Grundy. The only hunting he does now days is squirrell, turkey and grouse.
When I first starting deer hunting in 1974, we would stay near Williamsville off Sugartree Road.
Is is pretty up there.

I lived in VA for years and my parents still live there in Bedford. The neat thing about the fall season is that you can use a blackpowder rifle and it coinsides with the late season deer season. Pretty neat and always have had no issue killing several turkey in the fall. I will be going there in the Spring as I usually do as well. Tell your dad Congrats on three at once, that is the first that I have heard of that.
Not to rain on anyone's parade but being from VA and still hunting in VA, but this is illegal.
In VA you can only kill 1 turkey per day, spring or fall. You can only kill 2 birds in the fall season.
Alos there is a 3 bird total for both spring and fall.

My Dad knows this. But what would you do if it happened to you? Like I stated he only saw the one in front and not the other two.

Call the game warden and report him. :( :) :bounce:
Did he take all 3 to the checkstation?

From what I understand, starting this year in Virginia, one does not have to take a kill to check out stations. This is for any big game, turkey, deer or bear.
My Dad is a very honest man. I have learned a lot from him about hunting and I'm proud to say if I'm aiming to shoot something, I make sure I have a clean shot. If not, I let it walk. I'm not going to shoot at an animal just to shoot.
The reason I started this thread was to simply state that someone had killed three turkey's with one shot, not realizing that two other turkey's were behind the one in front. I've heard of other people killing two turkey's with one shot, but never three.
If this offends anyone, well I'm sorry. But I'm very proud of my Dad.

In Va you can only kill 2 birds in the fall and only 1 per day. You have to take them to a check station. Only deer can be checked in by phone. Other big game-bear, elk, and turkey are to be checked in at a check station. Not to put a damper on his success but what he did was illegal in two ways maybe three if he didn't check the birds. He should call the game warden and explain what happened. Still, he should always positively identify his target and know whats beyond the target. This is a safety issue. This is how people get shot.
As far as checking, deer can only be called in. The new law does not say it does not have to be checked in, just that you can call the toll free number and do it. Not bear or turkey.
He should have taken them to the check station and gotten a ticket.

If I killed three in one shot I'd be mortified. In addition to feeling terrible about breaking the game laws, that means I couldn't hunt at all in the spring. Major bummer.
