Hungry blue jay

Got a few blue jay shots yesterday. The were hitting the peanut feeder pretty heavy.

Nikon D3, Nikkor 400 mm, f/4.5, 1/640th second, ISO 500, fill flash with better beamer, tripod, cropped to about 85% of frame.

He was sitting on the next perch over, and to get him in mid-air, I had to prefocus on his plane of flight and mush the shutter release as soon as I saw him jump. If I waited until I could see him in the viewfinder, I missed it every time!

Thanks, y'all.

Yep, and I actually had it in the truck & thought about setting it up. But then, I wouldn't be getting the robins & catbirds eating serviceberries that I was REALLY sitting there to get...
