Hello folks!
Just got back last night from my trip to Colorado. The weather was cold, windy, and rainy at times but it cleared up some yesterday for our hike in Rocky Mountain National Park.
My mother flew out, met me in Colorado and came along for the hike. We woke up at 3a.m. and headed about an hour west to the Bear Lake trailhead. Once we arrived, we were greated with snow flurries and thick snow.
The hike was to Dream Lake...only a mile from the trailhead but I'll tell ya, it was the most brutal mile hike I've ever taken! There was several feet of snow on the ground and the trail was covered in slick ice. An almost straight-up hike to the lake and the icy trail made for a grueling hike, not to mention we walked the first half in the darkness equipped with headlamps. I think we barely missed the best of the sunrise but was still able to catch some pretty nice light. I was also bummed to find the lake was frozen over.
On the way down, my mother slipped, fell and broke her hand! Yea, I can't begin to explain how rough the conditions were. I'll post some pictures of the hand soon.
Here is a shot from our destination....lots more to come...
