I like the Encore Single Shot rifles. I havent shot one though. Anyone have any opinions on these as a Deer rifle? I would probably favor a 7mm08 or the 308.

Confederate, I just got mine 2 weeks ago and so far I love it. I have always shot a 7mag but I went with the 7-08. It is easy to tote, feels good when shoulder and shots great to me. I shot one deer at 110 yards, one yote at 125 yards but miss one yote at 450 yards (I just miss). There is some on the board that is not happy with the way there are grouping but I'm happy with my so far (haven't shot it but 15 times)

all I have used for several years now but my "deer hunting "barrels are all from the TC custom shop-Fox Ridge- except one 280 rem standard barrel all shoot great and never had a problem with the encores

IMO...

It's one of the best Rifle's out today......

This is the second year I've had mine, and I love it!!!!!!!!!!!

I shoot the 7MM but I've heard people raving about the 7MM-08......My next barrel is gonna be that one....

Very Good Rifle!!!!!!!!!!

I would say that I love my encore, although I shoot mine more as a pistol than as a rifle. Those looking for the most from their Encore might wanna check out some of the custom shops, foxridge has already been mentioned. The custom shops are a bit more pricey but in the end you get what you pay for. Here are a few I have used in the past both for Encore, Contender and XP-100.

SSK Industries http://www.sskindustries.com

I had a 15 inch full bull Virgin Valley Barrel that was unbelievable. I sold it a few months back but I had a 1 shot kill on a buck in Indiana several years ago that measured 330 yards on my nikon rangefinder. I also have a Custom SSK XP-100 in 280 JDJ and it is a tack driver. My best group thus far is a 3 shot 1.23 at 200 yards. If these companies can make barrels that do that in a handgun I can only believe a rifle barrel would be as good.

One other note with Encores. If you can or do reload your own ammo ALWAYS neck size only!!!!! Full length resizing will not give you consistent accuracy with the Encores.
