sloped food plot

rye or ryegrass

germinates fast after getting some moisture. These will feed the deer and help with erosion control. Mix some clover with it and it'll be good spring forage also.

I seeded one such spot this fall with a mix of wheat, rye and ryegrass. Have to say that with all the huge rains I've gotten a lot of it washed away. But my spot had a HARD clay pan underneath that just wouldn't allow the seed to get a good toe hold. If your soil isn't compacted clay, any of these would work.

Not a food plot expert by any means, but a few things to consider are:

1. Is it a north or south facing slope? The amount of direct sunlight that it gets could effect the success of your plot.

2. Work the soil on the plot across the slope instead of up and down the slope. This should help with erosion as well.

Good luck.
