Got a letter today that stated they have implemented tighter security measures to protect me from identity fraud. They then require that I go on their website and take an "Identity verification quiz".

Sounds like a stall tactic to me...

Anyone else get one of these letters?

I would call them first before I did that.

I don't know about a letter being sent but they had a thing about this on the news the other day that the IRS is taking extra care this year because of fraud and identity theft.

There is a number at the top of the letter. It says to call the number if you dont have access to the internet...

If you do go on line to verify the letter of being legit then make sure you use these links and not any that is stated on the letter.

If it is a scam, then the one on a letter such as this would send you to a fake Ga. Revenue website.

Letter in the mail or email?

You shouldn't have to verify anything you have already verified!

The link in the letter is:

I dont think it's a scam, I was just saying it was a way for them to keep my money a little longer.

Actually many tax refunds have been delayed this year as a result of stolen identities. Folks are filing their returns only to have them denied because they had already been filed by an identity thief...

It's your money but I would give them a call about it to see what you can do.

It's legit, my best friend got one of those letters and some of the questions really stumped her, had to dig out all kinds of old paperwork, but finally called the next day & cleared it all up & already has her return in the bank!

This is why I refuse to e-file any of my client's tax returns.
