I hunted this bird last Saturday for over 2 hours. Had him come from 400 to 200 yards when he started going away. Followed his gobbles slowly and finally got him to recommit, only to have him hang up at 80 yards strutting and gobbling for 20 minutes before walking off.
Today, I set up past where he walked off and he gobbled from about 400 yards away at 6:14am. At one point I had him at 50 yards, only to have 2 hens come in and take him back out to 100. One of the hens went back to her nest in front of me and the other was still giving me a piece of her mind. After hitting her back with some cutts and yelps, she went on off and the gobbler committed to coming my way. Hunt was over at 7:20am. 10.25" beard and matching 1.25" spurs! Unfortunately, one of those spurs got me good when I only was able to grab one leg...and I immediately knew what was coming!
