Well after really getting hooked on turkey hunting this year, and finding a website that sells pre-cut pots, slate, and glass I have decided to try my hand at making a few of my own pot calls. I realize that I'm not making completely homemade calls, but I figured getting pre-cut pots and putting them together would be a good starting point. After looking at this website: http://brooksidegamecalls.com/clickhereforslateforturkeycalls.aspx I ordered the "beginners kit" as well as a couple of other pots and slate.
My order should be in my mailbox any day now, and I'm really unsure of exactly what to do. I bought a tube of plumbers goop which seemed to be the most highly recommended adhesive to use, and I have read and bookmarked a thread on customcalls.com that has given me a general idea of what I will be doing, but I'm still not entirely sure. I don't know quite how much goop to use, and also I have heard that I will need to sand and stain the pots, but I haven't found any answers on that either.
I do know the components of a completed pot call, but other than that I really don't know any tricks to making them. So really I am looking for any tips or special tricks to making a good pot call. I don't expect to be great at this because it will be my first time, but I do want to have the best chance at making a decent call that I can get, which is why I am asking you guys! Any help on this at all will be greatly appreciated!
Thanks!
