Wooden Turkey Fan Feathers

Just finished up a few of these. Feathers are carved from Tupelo wood and arrowheads from bass wood. All painted with acrylics. First one mounted on wormy chestnut (one of two) and barn wood for the second.

Have you got a pic of one Nick? Might like to do one.

That's amazing Al ! Do you use a Dremal or is that all blade work?

Other than a band saw to cut out the blanks it is all knife work. Carving the quill is the hardest part because it has to be raised up which means carving the wood away from it on both sides. It's easy to mess it up at the real narrow parts.:bounce: I do a lot of sanding to get it right and even. I then texture and burn in the vaneing.

Thanks! I have been making these for a long time but there are not that many of them out there. I was trying to think of just how many I have done and I can only guess but probably 15 +/-.

Looks good AL and you gave me an idea to. Could you take like the board you have them on and basically carve down all the wood around where the feather is and make that feather on that same board. Leaving it attached like it is lying there. Sort of reverse inlay
