we planted some sun hemp that we bought from Wannamaker in St Matthews,SC it was in their spring/summer mix. Planted it in June. the sun hemp in that mix is 7 to 8 ft tall today. check the photo.
the deer did not take to it that great, maybe because it is new to them, maybe they preferred the peas and beans more than the hemp.
sure is a great cover crop.
www.petcherseeds.com (in AL; they ship; he is, as far as I know, the source everybody gets theirs from that they resell to you)
www.abseed.com (Adams-Briscoe, Jackson, GA) ship or pick up
(deerdander: mine did that way too: I think it's more because it's new than unpalatable; next year I plan to plant more, but mix it 50:50 with IC peas & run the mower over it when it reaches 12-18 inches to induce it to branch more & have more tender tips at deer height. Took it a little while to really get going in the drought, but then it takes off, mine's probably 6 feet-ish now too).
