Rye Grass

About 3 weeks ago I planted some Rye by a small creek. The soil is mostly sandy and it has grew very well and the deer have found it. They are tearing it up. I want to plant more rye along the creek bank and up into the shaded woods. Would it be better to plant this weekend or wait until it gets cooler? If I replant this weekend will it last/live through the colder days of Sep/Oct?

I wouldn't plant it until late sept or early oct unless you are going to bow hunt over it. The tallers it gets the tougher and less attractive/palatable has been my findings. This is when I plant abruzzi/grain rye and it lasts all winter.
