I read this book back in the 70s and would like to find it and read it again. The book was about a legendary bear the hounds could never bay long enough for the hunters to kill. The hunters captured a wild dog who would eventually lead the pack and bay the bear long enough to be killed. I think the dog ended up dying to. I think the setting was late 1800s. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Think you are correct. Story "The Bear" describes it to a T. William Faulkner is the author.

"The Bear" short story by Faulkner. You also learn about "Fyce" dogs in that story.

An old book I liked as a kid was Kavic The Wolf Dog. Its a good book for youngens.

This is a good site where else you find all this good information, I just looked up "Go, Down Moses" you can get it for cheap on Amazon definitely going on the reading list.

I don't even read and I may have to add "Go, Down Moses" to my list. Also, if you fire and horses, "Firehorse" is a great read! It is dated back in the 1800's. This is my first "real" book read!
