Gone But Not Forgotten
I just got a virus on my laptop that wants $300 or I'm going to jail. Does anybody know how to fix this?

yeah that sucks, I got the same one and my computer nerd buddy told me to go buy another computer! I didn't have anything on the computer that I couldn't live without so that's what I did! he said that the only way to fix it would be to bridge two computer and download virus software to infected computer from the other! seemed like a real pain in the butt so I said the heck with it and went and got a new laptop! is it the "FBI" virus?
Thanks for that, my desk top got the same thing on it a week ago and I have left it alone while trying to find out how to get the computer cleaned out safely.

I have been in IT for 15 years and hate hearing of this junk.
Thought I would chime in to help a bit and maybe prevent this crap.
Video and link that was posted is great, here is my shortcut...
First download Malwarebytes - This program is free and gets rid of "crap" link: http://www.malwarebytes.org/ get FREE version.
Install it, update it, do a quick scan, and delete all that it finds. Then do a FULL scan, same thing - delete all that it finds.
For Antivirus I like Comodo Comodo Internet Security. Again - install it update it then run it link: http://www.comodo.com/products/free-products.php
Another method of prevention is by using Google Chrome, while it wont stop everything it is faster and a little safer than Microsoft Internet Explorer Link : https://www.google.com/intl/en/chrome/browser/
