Short Stop I live about 20 minutes south of Osceola Nat'l. Forest but have never hunted it. If you are looking for an "Osceola" strain bird you will have to go a little farther south to find 'em. The FWC drew a line a couple of years ago in an attempt to say, "south of here is Osceola, north is Eastern". Some of our birds look like Osceolas and some like Easterns? I am below the Osceola line BTW. Hope you find somewhere to chase 'em.

Never hunted that WMA, but there are some non-quota WMAs, such as Lochloosa, Ft. McCoy, Upper Hillsborough, Bull Creek, Three Lakes. All of those are below the official osceola line. The people at FL FWC are helpful if you give them a call.

I saw several gobblers on Lochloosa just before season last year. A friend of mine lives only a couple miles from it. He's killed a bunch of birds there, but refuses to hunt it anymore; Says the pressure and the rudeness just got out of hand.

Lochloosa WMA has a good population but the part that is non-quota is smaller now than it was before. Most of Lochloosa is a User-Pay-Area and you have to have a special permit to be able to hunt that area now and all of those permits are gone.

I have taken several good birds from Lochloosa in the past and this year I should be able to fill at least 1 tag in there.

I'll be trying my luck in Upper Hillsborough, less than an hour from the house, and only open on Wed/Thursday
