After inviting myself to hunt with some great friends which live in Cookeville, Tn, I got one on the 3rd morning. He was on a 1070' knob and I was on a 1050' knob. The problem was that it was 650' in the bottom between us and he was only 700 yds away as the crow flies! Now I am a big ole, flatland redneck and it was not easy. He would not budge but the terrain so steep that he couldnt see down the hill from the ridge he was on. I crawled and cried to within 30 yds of the top and stood up behind some thick Laurel bushes and gave a soft call and some clucks. I also kicked the leaf litter and he gobbled 3x and then stuck his head over. He is my hardest to get to gobbler to date.

Congrats! Great story. You earned that bird.

I'm heading to hunt the mountain turkeys this weekend. I can hardly wait.

I have been home less than 15 hours and already trying to figure out when I can get up there again this spring. I have a new love for turkey hunting after that trip!
