Has anyone ever thought of making turning tools for wood lathes? I am in the process of getting the carbide tips, tool steel, and turning wood for the handles together to make some. HSS or stainless would also work.

This is something I plan on doing in the very near future . I believe it will be quiet fun and rewarding making my own :)

Made quite a few. Very simple and easy to create specialized tips for certain special cuts. O-1 seems to be one of the better steels for this. Just make sure you make them long enough so the tang can be inserted way back in the handle for strength.
