Burke Co. Cell Phone Reception?

Can anyone recommend the best carrier for cell service? I hunt around Girard and I loose my signal between McBean and Girard every time. I'd like to be able to make / recieve calls while in the woods ( for emergencies & such).

I was there most of last week and Verizon worked about 99% of the time.

We were just outside of Wrens.

Cellphone service

I'm going to reply even though I really can't answer the question - all I can tell you is Cingular won't pick up in that area very well. I get decent service until I'm about 2 or 3 miles north of Girard, then nothing until a good ways toward Augusta.

Jim, Cingular will work close to Wrens, but there are a lot of gaps further south.

Verizon works better....

I switched from Alltel to Verizon this year and can now receive and make calls from areas on Fort Gordon, near Wrens/Blyth and Harlem that were "dead zones" with Alltel wireless service. The "All in the Family Plan" is great if you have multiple members in the household who use a cell phone it's "FREE" to other Verizon users anywhere in the Verizon coverage area 24/7.

Yep, Alltel is the best I have seen in Burke County. I had Verizon and they were spotty at best. I get a really good signal on Yuchi WMA between Girard and Plant Vogtle. Like BCB said, Alltel is the best out in the country. "Can you hear me now?" "NOPE!"

I know D2D has some land in Burke but not sure out which highway.

Andy's land USED to be out Hwy 88 down near Keysville. Don't know if he is still using that property or not.
