other than having to have the head space set, what will I need to have done to swap out a barrel in 243 with one in 204 Ruger? I am talking about the case diameter, and bolt head size.

I'm not sure the bolt will allow that, as the .204 Ruger is really based off the .222 Remington.

I was wondering if I would have to replace the bolt also. Sound like if thats the case, I'll look at something else.

It's based on the 222 mag case

Correct.I have the 204 in a TC Encore. Here is a picture of the target shot after some polishing up the trigger, new hinge pin,and floating the barrel. The top group is before the bottom one holer is after.Shooting at 100 meters.

I would opt to go another direction, not trying to get a complete new bolt to handle the 204. It would be a lil bit pricey. I think I would hold on to the 243 and just get another gun in 204. I have had some work done on bolt, like having an AR15 extractor installed in Rem 700 bolts to make them work with smaller head cases, like the 6MM PPC
but that is pricey too

Thanks Larry, I am looking for a barreled action or a 222, 223 reciever now.Bolt work is a bit too pricey especially since I have a habit of trading every few days.

"I have the same habit of trading".
I bought a Savage .204 and put it in a Boyd Thumb hole stock. It shoots an inch group @ 300 yards on a day when there is no wind.
Bought a low end gun, with the accu trigger, and I would not trade it. "Cheap to shoot and accurate".

Wow! What optics are you using on your .204?

Craig, Have you thought about buying a stevens 200 or savage 110 to play with? You can swap the barrels yourself as well as bolt heads, mag boxes etc.
I keep thinking I'm going to get one myself.
