The State of Georgia and what it did for WWII

Gone But Not Forgotten
There was a POW camp at Spence Field also.

Pow camp at Ft Gordon. They have a cemetery for the nazi soldiers at the Grovetown gate.

"The only remaining building from the camp is the mess hall, which sits on a corner of a Milliken & Company textile plant. The Patterson Pump Company occupies another portion of the grounds."

We've bought pump parts from Patterson. Interesting history as well.

We have a cabin in the mountains near Toccoa. The museum in Toccoa is well worth the time or drive to visit. They have everything you can imagine from weapons to walls covered the the decorations they earned in WWII. To anyone interested in WWII History, it is a must see.

In France, Sainte Mere Eglais ,a church shows their respect of our war fighters..

It took us long to go through the WWII area of the museum, we did not see the Vietnam exhibit. As I served in Vietnam as a 11B4P, we will return..

Interesting, I'll have to check out the museum;

"The museums are all located in the newly-renovated Train Depot in historical downtown Toccoa, GA, where paratroopers first arrived in town by train before walking to the camp to begin their training."

I think it was about a five mile walk!

Robert Lee Scott of Flying Tigers, 14th Air Force and "God is my Co-pilot" fame. You should also read his "Boring a Hole in the Sky" to see how a genuine hero was run out of the Air Force by jealous desk pilots. It will make your bp rise.

For clarification, Scott was not part of the AVG although he did fly one of their planes that was loaned to him by Gen. Chennault.

Waycross Army airfield housed the 531st base headquarters and the 345th Army Air Force. It was a sub-base of Hunter.
