Sunday July 8, 2018 is not only the date for the next shoot at the North Georgia Traditional Archery Club. It is also the date for our annual club business meeting. First, the scoop on the shoot.

You will notice right away that this is not the first Sunday in July. You’re right. We shoot on the second Sunday of July so as not to interfere with families celebrating Independence Day and all that goes along with that. At any rate, we’ll have our usual twenty targets set in the woods that will challenge your shooting ability and provide a lot of family fun. We hope you’ll come and be with us. There will be a good lunch provided. The menu is at the discretion of our host. We’ll begin with a short devotion at 9:00 a.m. and then it’s all the shooting you can get in until 3:00 p.m. when we pull the targets. Shoot as much as you want for one low price.

NOTE: For this shoot, we want to encourage everyone to take a scorecard and use it to keep track of their score. Here’s why. We want to have an ethical scoring shoot this month. It will go as follows:
  • A shot in the 10-ring is still 10 points.
  • A shot in the 8-ring is still 8 points.
  • Anything else, anywhere else in the target is considered a wound or crippling shot and is MINUS 10 points.
  • A miss is still a miss and is worth zero points.

The last time we used ethical scoring, plenty of people came back with scores in negative numbers. It is lots of fun and really gets you ready for hunting season. High score still wins and we’ll give a prize for the best ethical score at the end of the day. You need not be present to win the prize, but you must turn in a score card to be eligible.

Now for the details on the business meeting… This annual meeting is held at our July shoot each year and is the time when we elect our officers for the next calendar year. Officers serve from the end of the August shoot, the last of our season, through the remainder of the current year and through the entire next season. So, we’ll elect officers, have a treasurer’s report and talk about necessary items of business that come before the club.

Also, this is the time of year when we schedule our shoot hosts for the next year. Please consider being a host for a monthly shoot in 2019. We only have eight shoot per year but we have struggled lately getting all of our shoots covered as far as hosting is concerned. All you have to do as a shoot host is to prepare the noon meal. We’ll even do the shopping for you.

    Shoot fees
    Members - $5 each
    Non-members - $10 each
Families – members with a family of three or more - $15
Non-members with families of three or more - $25
First time shooters at our club shoot for free.
Lunch - $5 each (donation to cover costs)

Memberships to our club are $25 and it’s a once in a life-time fee.

You can find us at 2295 Lee Land Road, Gainesville, GA 30507. Look for our sign. Hope to see you on July 8.

* Will do.
Also, before being a host would like to sign up to be a sort of an 'assistant/apprentice' host so i get the drift of things :- ).

The only responsibility for a shoot host is to plan and prepare the lunch on the day of the shoot. The club officers and other volunteers take care of all the rest. Even buying the groceries.

Good time yesterday at NGTA! We had 69 folks to sign in. Great weather (just about perfect), a good business meeting and a big time all around. Our last shoot of the 2018 3-D season is coming on August 5. Hope to see you there.

My thanks go to the men in the set-up crew, the men in the take down crew (same crew actually), and to all who made this shoot a success.

Had a great time at this shoot. Anybody that’s thinking about heading out to the next one I strongly recommend it. Good folks and good targets.
